At an event in San Francisco, Nokia announced the new version of their location platform now called “Here”. You can try out Here Maps at here.net. Nokia will release an Android SDK that will be available to allow OEMs to include Here services on their products. Also Nokia is partnering with Mozilla to bring Here maps to its Firefox OS.

Here Maps features the following,

Collections:

Save and share places that are meaningful to you, and take them with you anywhere, anytime, on any device.

Real 3D experience:

Explore the world without leaving your living room. All you need is a web browser and wanderlust!

Explore around you:

See what’s nearby in a flash. Explore and discover places near your location – easier then ever before!

Change the map now:

Help build the world’s freshest, most up-to-date maps. Add or edit roads and paths and share your work with the whole world.

Along with the above new features, Here features all the things that were already part of Nokia Maps before,

  • Search for and discover new places
  • Get directions by foot, car or public transport
  • Check your commute and get live traffic info
  • See reviews and photos for places and share your view with others
  • Explore the world’s great cities
  • And much more

Amazing stuff from Nokia!
