Microsoft is reportedly working to bring yet another Xbox device, following months-old leak of upcoming Xbox’s next-gen plans that will possibly arrive in 2028.
South Korean market (via @KoreaXboxNews) first spotted a new regulatory listing dated this week (March 19, 2024). The new undisclosed device is labeled as “XDK Console,” short for Xbox Development Kit, with assigned model number 2089 and origin countries of China and Vietnam.
“Microsoft’s new Xbox Dev Kit (XDK) console was certified by the National Radio Research Agency in Korea today. This means that you can use the device in Korea. It is likely to be distributed to game developers in Korea soon,” the report reads.
Designed for game devs, the Xbox Development Kit includes debugging tools, libraries, a compiler, and various tools necessary to develop games or apps for Xbox’s ecosystem.
To provide more context, the Xbox Series X/S development kit consoles received certification from the National Radio Research Agency in Korea in June 2020. Months after that, Xbox Series X/S officially launched in the country.
Microsoft is rumored to unveil a new Xbox console this summer, possibly a digital-only version of the Xbox Series X which has been rumored for quite some time. This adds credibility to this XDK rumor, and if the timing is right, the new XDK may be for this disc-less version, expected in late spring or early summer.
