Neverware ditches Google services for Office 365 on its 'Chrome OS for old computers'

Neverware, the company behind CloudReady is introducing a new version of its OS. CloudReady, for those unfamiliar, is essentially Chrome OS for old Windows laptops that aren’t capable of running Windows 10 or other versions of Windows smoothly anymore. These laptops, however, are able to run Chrome OS just fine as it’s a lot more lightweight than Windows.

In the past, Neverware delivered Google’s services like Google Drive, Docs, and Sheets with CloudReady. Now, the company is teaming up with to deliver Microsoft’s Office 365 Education services instead. The company is replacing Google Drive with Microsoft’s OneDrive on CloudReady’s latest version. Similarly, the company is also replacing Google Docs with Microsoft Word, Google Sheets with Microsoft Excel and it’s also packing Microsoft OneNote now. CloudReady users will still be able to run Google services, but Microsoft’s services will now be present instead of Google services out of the box.

CloudReady is aimed at schools looking to get affordable devices — the service is now available for $1 per student for one year, or schools can get it for $15 per device for one year. Additionally, schools can also get CloudReady for one device at $59 for a lifetime.
