Task Manager bug, Windows 11

It’s that time of the month. Microsoft has recently launched the KB5043080 update, or the Patch Tuesday for September 2024, for Windows 11 users in the 24H2 version. A lot of fixes are documented, including the Task Manager bug that messes up with the chart’s color in dark mode.

If you had your Windows 11 system in dark mode, you would have expected the UI colors to turn dark—like the address/title bar on File Explorer, or applications inside your laptop/PC. But for some odd reason, the “Performance” chart in Task Manager refuses to cooperate, and instead, shows black-and-white.

Speaking of the update, Microsoft also adds User Account Control (UAC) prompts for application repairs and addresses a known issue affecting games downloaded via Microsoft Store (like Roblox) when being played on Windows on Arm devices.

“When it repairs an application, the User Account Control (UAC) does not prompt for your credentials. After you install this update, the UAC will prompt for them. Because of this, you must update your automation scripts,” the KB5043080 update’s changelog reads.

Previously, the KB5041865 update from late August 2024 incorrectly listed the Recall feature as uninstallable, but Microsoft has clarified this was a mistake and plans to release a fix soon. Despite the current inability to uninstall it, Microsoft might allow uninstallation in the future, especially under pressure from European regulators.
