Microsoft today announced in a blog post that they will release Windows Phone 7.8 in early 2013. Microsoft is working closely with their hardware and carrier partners to get it tested, approved, and rolled out to as many devices as possible. Also Microsoft is making sure to deliver a high-quality release and ensure a smooth transition for their widely expanded services.

Along with the new Start Screen in Windows Phone 7.8, Microsoft mentioned that number of theme and accent colors are doubled to 20. There are also new lock screen features such as the option to automatically display the Bing Picture of the Day plus the ‘A1B2C3’ PIN/password challenge to prevent accidental device wipes on phones connected to Exchange accounts.

Microsoft also said that new devices running Windows Phone 7.8 will be released in many countries around the world focusing on lower price points to reach more customers.
