Last month, Microsoft’s Gabriel Aul confirmed that the company will be releasing a new update for Windows RT, dubbed as Windows 8.1 RT Update 3 in September. Following the announcement, a report claimed that Update 3 for Windows 8.1 RT will include an improved Start Menu. Now, Microsoft has quietly updated its Windows 10 FAQ page which now states that Windows 8.1 RT Update 3 will improve the Start menu and lock screen:
If you’re running Windows RT, your device won’t upgrade to Windows 10. We will have an update available in September 2015 that will improve the Start menu and lock screen. Check Windows Update on your Windows RT device to make sure it is ready to download the update when available.
For now, there isn’t much info on what improvements the Start menu and lock screen will include. However, according to a previous report, the update will include the Direct UI Start menu which was available in the early days of Windows 10 (as you can see in the above picture). For the lock screen, we don’t know what improvements it will include just yet.
Nonetheless, if you’re a Windows RT user, are you excited for Update 3? Discuss in the comment section below.
Thanks, Charbel A. for the tip!
