- Another patent shows plans to make Copilot a multi-user chat platform for real-time updates and conversation history.
Microsoft’s big push in AI across Windows 11 and its other products is expanding as the Redmond tech giant will soon use AI to repair software issues on your PCs.
We’ve recently come across a new patent document from Microsoft with a publication date in February 2025. The 25-page document describes a generative AI system that automatically detects and repairs reliability issues in operating systems and apps, such as Windows 11.
As Microsoft says, the system analyzes error data to identify the cause of issues and can suggest or apply fixes to improve troubleshooting processes. The company says, “The manual debugging process is often time-consuming and is prone to human error.”
While aimed at developers, the system could also assist regular users by delivering automated repairs and intelligent support. But in a more complex case, this generative AI can also generate reports to help developers fix bugs more efficiently.
In this example, you can ask generative AI to explain the purpose of specific software code in simple, conversational language. For example, a developer reviewing a memory dump might ask the AI to explain a function that failed during the execution of a program.
The AI then analyzes error information to identify the portion of the code that caused or contributed to the issue. If the failure of that code directly caused the problem, it’s considered the cause; if the code is just one part of multiple failures, it’s seen as contributing to the issue.
“The generative AI system then provides the output to the requestor and/or performs one or more actions to further evaluate or repair the detected issue,” the Redmond company continues.
Another patent document also says that Microsoft wants to improve Copilot, its AI offering on Windows 11 & 10, by turning it into a multi-user chat platform. This means multiple people can chat with the AI at the same time, with real-time updates and a history of the conversation.
