It seems things are a bit up in the air at Microsoft when it comes to Windows Phone 7.8.  So far the only confirmed feature in the OS update is the new Windows Phone 8 start screen, and despite reassurances by Microsoft that OEMs will continue to add features to the OS, Microsoft itself has not committed to adding more.

Now a member of the Windows Phone team has posted on their User Voice page asking for suggestions for exactly which features WP 7.5 users want on Windows Phone 8.

In a post asking for more features in WP 7.8 he writes:

As you know, Windows Phone 8 is a generational shift in technology, which means that it will not run on existing hardware.

BUT we care deeply about our existing customers and would like to know SPECIFICALLY what features you would like to see on 7.8 and vote INDIVIDUALLY for the one that you want most (vs. one large grab bag of features).

In response it seems users are expected to make individual topics for screen shots, IE10, datasmart, Office 2013,  in-app payments and a host of other features which are not hardware dependent so that they can be voted and prioritized independently.

At least this is a sign of Microsoft opening the door to adding features.  It also suggests WP 7.8 is not arriving any time soon.
