Surface India BIS Approval

Microsoft might be soon launching their Surface tablets in India. Recently, Microsoft Surface and Surface Pro 2 tablets have passed BIS (Bureau of Indian Standards) procedure to import inside India. As you can see in the image above, Maintek Computer( A unit of Pegatron) has shipped them to India. Microsoft has provided the following statement regarding this import process,

“As per BIS processes, certification is mandatory for this category. For Microsoft, we do go through these processes from time-to-time, as part of any market assessment perspective. But, at this stage, we have no announcements to offer for launch timing of the said model or other models of Microsoft Surface in India.”

There are two possibilities, either Microsoft Surface tablets launch is imminent in India or Microsoft has imported them for internal company purposes. Recently, Microsoft Mobile(Nokia). also imported Lumia 2520 tablets in India.
