If you’re one of the 35% of Windows users who are still using Windows 7, you may want to look into upgrading.  Microsoft have notified users that support for the OS is coming to an end early next year.

The notification titled “After 10 years, support for Windows 7 is nearing an end”, confirms January 14th 2020 to be the final day which Microsoft will offer security updates and technical support.

Microsoft reports that the OS can still be used after this date, but your security will be greatly compromised,”while you could continue to use your PC running Windows 7, without continued software and security updates, it will be at greater risk for viruses and malware. Going forward, the best way for you to stay secure is on Windows 10. And the best way to experience Windows 10 is on a new PC. While it is possible to install Windows 10 on your older device, it is not recommended.”

Unlike the Windows 10 upgrade prompt in 2015, this one can be easily and permanently dismissed.  It is, however, much more important that users do not ignore the pending end of support and heed Microsoft’s warning that it is now well passed due time to update to a more modern and secure operating system.
