nfc1Demonstrating that one should not really trust middle or upper management in a large company, even when they should be knowing what they are talking about, Microsoft corrected a statement made to TechRadar by  Will Coleman, developer evangelist and product manager at Microsoft UK, who said “As far as I’m aware, NFC is supported by [Windows Phone], but needs to be enabled by the OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer), so, if any OEM wants to enable it, that can be done by all means.”

A Microsoft spokesman told Tom Warren “While NFC is not currently supported on Windows Phone 7.5, it is coming. We expect NFC-enabled Windows Phone devices to ship within the next year.”

NFC is widely expected to be supported in the next minor revision of Windows Phone 7 called code-named Tango, with OEMs like Nokia and Samsung eager to implement this in their phones.
