Microsoft has just issued a firmware update for its new Surface Pro, aimed at fixing the device’s reported hibernation issue.
Earlier this month, new users of the Surface Pro reported that their device would unexpectedly shut off and go to sleep while in use. While some theorised that this was due to windows 10 version 1703, Microsoft confirmed earlier that it was a firmware issue and would be fixed soon.
This update is called “Surface – Firmware –233.1763.257.0” in the Windows Update when detected. You can download this update either through Windows Update or (if the system doesn’t detect it) from the Surface Pro Drivers and Firmware page in the Microsoft Download Center.
Microsoft’s Surface Pro line has been criticised for its reliability issues in the past–especially regarding power management and consumption. With this update, the firm is now clearly more sensitive to power issues and swift fixes. To be clear, Microsoft’s Surface Pro was a great device, but with the power issue resolved (as far as we know), users should be able to rely on it as a good one.
