Microsoft might be renaming the Microsoft Photos app in Windows 10 to Story Remix. The company today rolled out a new update to the Microsoft Photos app to those in the Skip Ahead ring in the Windows Insider program. The update only renames the app to Story Remix and doesn’t seem to include any new features. According to one of the members of the Windows Insider program team at Microsoft, the company is “testing” different names for the app.

Microsoft Photos being renamed to Story Remix isn’t a surprise to see. Microsoft said in the past that the company will have a standalone app for the new Story Remix experience in Windows 10, but it was only integrated inside the Microsoft Photos app. The company is also working on Story Remix apps for mobile devices like Android and iPhones, so the app on Windows 10 being renamed to Story Remix is probably just the beginning of the new app.

I am not a big fan of the new Story Remix name for the Photos app in Windows 10. Story Remix should be a separate app, kind of like Apple’s iMovie. Microsoft Photos, on the other hand, serves a very different purpose when compared to Story Remix so it should remain a standalone app rather than being renamed to Story Remix.
