Microsoft is working on two major new features for its cloud service, OneDrive. The software giant is now Both the features are concerned with making accessing the content on OneDrive easier for those using the service on the web.
One significant new functionality coming to OneDrive web is the new People view. OneDrive described the feature as a “new way to get back to your shared files both internal and external – organized by the people you work with.” The new interface will display the people you recently collaborated with and the files they shared with you.
OneDrive on the web currently has the option to let you see all the items you have shared and shared with you in the Shared section. Its Android and iOS clients also have that option. On top of it, web users will now get People view, where they will see items shared with them and not the other way around. According to the Microsoft 365 Roadman page, Microsoft is planning to release this capability as a Preview next month, with a broader rollout happening in August.
The other upcoming OneDrive functionality also has to do with content. It is planning to introduce “Recommended Files” to the OneDrive web client. OneDrive will literally recommend files that it thinks you care about. You will see a set of recommended files on OneDrive Home to get back to the files you care about quickly. Microsoft is planning to release Recommended Files for the OneDrive web next month.
Notably, the release timelines for both the upcoming OneDrive functionalities are tentative, meaning they can change if things don’t work out as planned. Delays happen when Microsoft faces any challenges during development or has to prioritize something else. We hope none of that will happen in the case of the said OneDrive features, and we will get them next month.
