Microsoft’s gaming chief Phil Spencer has now confirmed that Microsoft is not working on a streaming-only Xbox console right now. This statement puts an end to several rumors about Microsoft launching streaming-only affordable Xbox console. Recently, Microsoft launched Xbox One S All-Digital Edition, the first Xbox console that does not play physical disc. To play games, you need to download them through Internet. Phil Spencer said that some people got confused that this disc-less console may be the streaming-only Xbox that was rumored earlier.

“We are not working on a streaming-only console right now. We are looking at the phone in your pocket as the destination for you to stream, and the console that we have allows you to play the games locally.”

Microsoft’s current focus is to deliver Project xCloud successfully. Microsoft employees are already beta testing this new game streaming service and Microsoft is planning to open the public beta by next month in select markets. In 2020, Microsoft will launch this service more broadly.
