A few days ago we reported that Microsoft was preparing to launch support for Movies Anywhere in its Movies and TV Service.

With Movies Anywhere, users would not have to care where they purchase their movies as it would be synced between all services. This allows you to say purchase a movie on your Android Phone with Google Play, and go to your Movies and TV Library to find it waiting for you.

Now US Movies and TV users can register to join the Movies Anywhere service using their Microsoft account.

The procedure is relatively simple and Microsoft is giving away a free X-men movie for those who register:

1. Register for a Movies Anywhere account at MoviesAnywhere.com or click ‘Get Started’ below
2. Follow the instructions to sync your Microsoft account (and any other participating retailer account you have)
3. All eligible movies will now appear in your Microsoft Movies & TV account to access on Xbox and Windows. You’ll also see the same movies via the Movies Anywhere app on supported platforms: iOS, Android, and streaming devices.

Movies Anywhere support is one of the few features that the Microsoft Movies app was missing, and its inclusion will reduce at least one barrier to entry for discerning users.  Like most good things, Movies Anywhere is available only in the US at this time.
