This weekend was the grand opening of Microsoft’s newest brick and mortar store at the Stanford Shopping Center in Palo Alto, California.  This is the sixth location in California and the sixteenth nationwide, with four more scheduled to open soon.

Microsoft went all out with the launch, bringing Ben "The PC Guy" Rudolph along to hold his now famous "Smoked by Windows Phone" contest.  Ben finished the day with a record of 5 wins, 0 losses and 1 tie.  According to his Twitter feed, "Today’s #smokedbywindowsphone record – 5 wins, 1 draw. Tie goes to the runner so I gave him the $1000 gift card!"

The Grand Opening finished last night when Microsoft brought in the rock group Maroon 5 to play a free concert in the parking lot outside of the store.

Next up are new stores in Bridgewater and Freehold, New Jersey, Danbury, Connecticut, and Overland Park, Kansas.
