Microsoft launches a new phone — and no, it’s not the Surface Phone

Microsoft today launched the new Nokia 216 feature phone device. Nokia 216 comes with 2.4″ screen, front and rear facing cameras with LED support and the ability to store up to 2000 contacts. Apart from this, you can enjoy high quality voice calls, a built-in torchlight, FM Radio3, MP3 and video player, outstanding battery life of up to 18 hours talk time, up to 24 days standby time, Bluetooth 3.0 and Bluetooth audio support for headsets.

It also comes with the Opera Mini Browser and allows you to download more apps and games using the Opera Mobile Store. They have also included one free Gameloft game every month for a year. There is also a dual sim variant of this device. Nokia 216 Dual SIM will cost Rs 2,495 for Indian customers and it will be available next month.

Microsoft’s statement on this new launch.

“Microsoft’s feature phones are a range of trusted mobile devices that empower people with mobility and the ability to connect, discover and achieve more. They are long lasting, functional, and beautifully designed – and give you more for less, Nokia 216 Dual SIM is our newest addition to the Microsoft feature phone family that offer the affordable connectivity features people need, combined with the entertainment features they want.”

In May, Microsoft announced that it has reached an agreement to sell the company’s entry-level feature phone assets to FIH Mobile Ltd., a subsidiary of Hon Hai/Foxconn Technology Group, and HMD Global Oy. The transaction is expected to close in the second half of 2016, subject to regulatory approvals and other closing conditions. Until the closing of the transaction, Microsoft continues to run the feature phone business.
