Right now, Microsoft has two enterprise maps offerings: Bing Maps for Enterprise and Azure Maps. Microsoft recently announced that it is unifying its enterprise maps offerings under Azure Maps. This unification will allow customers to take advantage of other Azure cloud services along with the improved Azure Maps. On top of the features already available on Bing Maps Enterprise, the new Azure Maps will also support advanced service authentication methods, data residency compliance, geolocation, weather information, and custom indoor maps.
Here’s how the Bing Maps Enterprise transition is going to work:
- Bing Maps for Enterprise will be retired on June 30, 2028. Yes, you don’t have to worry for another 4 years.
- Existing Bing Maps for Enterprise customers can continue to license Bing Maps for Enterprise APIs and services until then.
- Microsoft will stop accepting new Bing Maps for Enterprise customers from June 30, 2024.
- Customers using the free and basic license for Bing Maps for Enterprise should transition their apps by June 30, 2025.
“Unifying our enterprise maps offerings under Azure Maps will greatly simplify our enterprise mapping offerings making it easier for customers to buy and use our services in a way that is consistent with other services at Microsoft,” wrote Nick Lee, Corporate Vice President, Microsoft Maps and Local.
