A couple of days back Microsoft released Build 18999 to Windows Insiders on Fast Ring. The update brought a bunch of new features including the ability to make calls using Your Phone app but also added an annoying bug to the Operating System.

According to multiple threads (via Techdows) on Reddit, users are facing a weird issue where clicking on shutdown doesn’t actually shuts down the PC. Instead, the display goes black but the PC still keeps on running in the background. Microsoft, now, has updated their official build blog post and have marked it as a known issue. Microsoft said that they are “investigating reports that some devices are getting stuck during shutdown or restart.” The Reddit thread also confirmed that the shutdown /s and shutdown /s /f commands don’t work.

Microsoft hasn’t disclosed the cause of the problem yet but we expect them to talk about it soon. In the meantime, if you’re suffering from the issue then you might consider rolling back to the older build until the issue has been resolved.
