Inserting disc on Xbox

Your Xbox discs don’t read even after you’ve inserted them into the console? We’ve got some good news for you.

Microsoft has recently rolled out a new Xbox Update Preview for Xbox Insiders in the Alpha and Alpha-Skip Ahead rings. The update addresses this long-standing problem where disc-based games would not always appear when inserted into the console.

Microsoft still does offer some troubleshooting solutions if this issue happens on your end, though. But, it’s nothing new.

You can first make sure that the disc is inserted with the artwork facing the top of the console if it’s horizontally placed. If your console prompts you to insert a disc despite one being already inserted, try switching to Shutdown (energy saving) mode from Sleep mode and perform a hard power cycle by holding the Xbox button for 10 seconds.

After restarting, then, check if the disc is recognized.

While the update brings many improvements, there are still a few known issues that Microsoft is working to resolve in future updates.

Non-NTFS formatted USB drives are still not being recognized when plugged in, and webcams may not be detected during live streaming. The Redmond company then promises that fixes for these problems will be shipped in future updates.

Still from Xbox-related news for Insiders, Microsoft recently lifted the size cap of allowed external USB drives larger than the previous 16TB limit. The update is currently live in the invite-only Alpha Skip-Ahead ring and will use multiple partitions and appear as separate devices to maximize storage capacity.
