Recently Microsoft published a list of feedback they were going to work on and implement in the upcoming Edge Preview builds. The list included the annoying Administrator mode detected notification as well.

Following their own feedback list, Microsoft has now added a “De-elevate browser on launch” flag to Edge Canary. The flag, when enabled, will relaunch the browser as logged in user if it detects that the browser is running with admin privileges. The flag will also push an alert asking users to re-launch the browser without admin privileges if it detects that the browser is running with Administrator privileges.

There’s a good reason why Microsoft doesn’t want Edge to be running with Administrator privileges. In elevated mode, Microsoft Edge will have administrator access to all the files including sensitive and system files. This will allow any software with malware to easily inherit the admin privileges and overwrite those files without the user realizing that the files have been changed or corrupted.

The good thing is, with the De-elevate flag, users can easily make sure the browser is launched without administrator privileges.
