Copilot Studio

At Build 2024, Microsoft today announced a new set of capabilities in Microsoft Copilot Studio which will allow developers to build new Copilot agents, Copilot connectors, Copilot extensions and more. With these updates, Copilot Studio will become the standard way for any developer to get started with any type of Copilot development. Read about the new capabilities in details below.

  • Copilot agents: With Copilot Studio, developers can now add capabilities to Microsoft Copilot to act as agents that can independently orchestrate tasks based on specific roles and functions. This will allow users to use Copilot for automating long-running business processes. Copilot Agents are now available as part of the Early Access Program in Copilot Studio.
  • Copilot connectors: Copilot connectors combine Microsoft Graph and Power Platform connectors, AI skills in Microsoft Fabric (in private preview) and Microsoft Dataverse to make the process of grounding copilots in first- and third-party line-of-business data. And this whole process can be done in a wizard-based experience inside Copilot Studio. This will enable organizations to easily ingest their organizational knowledge into copilots, enable new actions and more. Copilot connectors feature is now available in preview in Copilot Studio.
  • Copilot extensions improvements:  With Copilot extensions, developers can customize copilots with instructions, knowledge from data sources and actions from plugins, Microsoft Power Automate flows and more. Copilot extensions can be easily built for expense reporting, employee onboarding and more. You can now publish a Copilot extension to Copilot for Microsoft 365 from Copilot Studio. This capability is now in preview.
  • Improved Copilot extensions discovery: Copilot extensions will be made available to users to install from the store in Copilot and app stores in Microsoft 365 products like Teams and Outlook. This feature is in preview.
  • Conversational analytics in Copilot Studio, in preview, will give developers data to improve user satisfaction.
  • A new conversational design experience, in preview, will simplify Copilot creation process with conversational, human-like interaction.
  • Templates, in preview, will allow users to build copilots faster with pre-built templates for common organization use cases.
