Microsoft Paint Background Removal

Yesterday, Microsoft announced the roll out of an exciting update for the Paint app to Windows Insiders in the Canary and Dev Channels (version 11.2306.30.0). This new Paint app update adds background removal feature. As the name suggests, using this new feature, you will be able to remove the background of any image automatically with a single click. Microsoft Paint’s new Background removal feature can detect the subject from the entire image. It can also detect from a selection using the selection tool.

Here’s how the Background Removal in Paint works:

  • Install the latest version of Paint app (version 11.2306.30.0 or above) on your Windows 11 device.
  • Paste or open your image onto the Paint app.
  • In the toolbar, you will notice the new remove background button. Click the button to remove the background on your entire image.
  • If you are not satisfied with the output, you can use the rectangle select tool to specify an area that you want to remove the background on.
