It is becoming increasingly clear that people are rather easy to manipulate, and democracy is rather more fragile than we suspected.
Microsoft has now stepped forward with a program which they say is designed to protect the democratic process from being hacked. The aim is for governments and technology companies to work together to safeguard the electoral processes.
Microsoft 365 for Campaigns
Microsoft 365 for Campaigns is a new service which provides the high-end security capabilities of Microsoft 365 Business offering to political parties and campaigns, initially those for federal office in the United States. It will do so in a streamlined way and at a low price, preconfigured to optimize for the unique operating environments campaigns face, including their fast pace and high-security-risk profile.
Microsoft 365 for Campaigns builds on the AccountGuard threat-detection and nation-state attack notification service was announced in 2018 and simplifies security for political organizations by providing specialized wizards that campaigns can use to easily and efficiently harden their security posture from the ground up.
Microsoft 365 for Campaigns can be set up in less than five minutes by any staffer on behalf of an organization using a simple and easy-to-understand onboarding process that surfaces the important choices for achieving a high level of security, and it’s available at a 75% discount for $5 per month per person.
The service is available to all federal political campaigns and national party committees in the United States. Campaigns and party organizations can now sign up for the service by visiting here.
In addition to the above, the Microsoft 365 for Campaigns sign-up process allows for streamlined enrollment into Microsoft’s AccountGuard service, a sophisticated tool that provides notification about cyberthreats, including attacks by known nation-state actors, in a unified way across both email systems run by organizations and the personal accounts of these organizations’ leaders and staff who opt in.
