It seems something special did indeed happen in July this year when it comes to Windows Phone adoption.

The monthly active users of the official Facebook app increased from 2.4 million to 2.9 million between the 9th July and 5th August, a 21% increase in users in less than a month.

Official FB app MUA Days between  100K increase
09/07/2012 2400000
12/07/2012 2500000 3
17/07/2012 2600000 5
22/07/2012 2700000 5
29/07/2012 2800000 7
05/08/2012 2900000 7

Interestingly this increase is much more significant than that for the built-in Facebook integration, which increased between at half the rate from 2.3 to 2.4 million between the 11th July and 26th July.

This may be because growth is coming from users naive to the platform who are more used to using apps than the People hub, or from growth in places like China were the integration is absent.

The rate of increase was initially very high but has slowed in August, and we will have to see if it will peter out over the next few weeks. An explanation for the increase is also not clear, but it may have been due to increased media coverage of Windows Phone following the Windows Phone 8 summit on the 20th June or price cuts by retailers.
