2K Games may have filed a trademark for Mafia 4, a long-awaited open world title.

On August 2nd 2019, publisher 2K Games filed a trademark simply labelled as “MAFIA“. While this doesn’t confirm the possibility of a forth entry, a return to the first title doesn’t seem likely.

The trademark has since been removed from the United States Patent Office’s original webpage but it was picked up by SegmentNext. The original serial number is 88564555.

The existence of a fourth entry in the long-running Mafia series has been rumoured for a spell. While the last entry in the series, Mafia 3, wasn’t the most critically acclaimed title, it did provide a fun experience. A fantastic storyline also helped to make Mafia 3 a memorable title.

Since the release of the third game, developer Hangar 13 has been busy creating the fourth entry. Whether or not Mafia 4 will bring back classic characters or not is unconfirmed but there’s certainly space for an awesome sequel to the last game.

Update: The article has been remedied to correctly identify the primary source as SegmentNext.
