Nokia has clearly had enough with the built-in limitations of Windows Phone, and has decided to use its influence and access to fix all those annoying issues affecting users of its Lumia phones.

The beta app Lumia Storage check already addresses a major issue affecting Windows Phone users – the Other Storage bug, which causes the collection of temporary files to grow unchecked.

Now Lumia Storage check goes one step further, and allows users to save mapping data to their memory card – something which makes devices which support these cheap storage expansion options much more useful, especially given that mapping data often swallow multiple gigabytes.

storagecheckSince Microsoft has chosen not to address these issues themselves (so far at least) it means owners of HTC and other Windows Phone OEM devices are left with devices which are comparatively crippled compared to Lumia devices – a situation which is far from ideal, and which makes it very difficult to recommend such phones over the dominant Windows Phone OEM’s handsets.

Find the app in the Windows Phone Store here.
