LinkedIn today announced a new feature called Active Status on LinkedIn Messaging that will allow users see when their connections are online and available to chat with a green dot appearing next to their profile photo. If you are familiar with Facebook, you must be very well aware of this feature. To respect the privacy of its users, LinkedIn also allows users to adjust their settings to manage who has visibility into their availability.

  • The next time you look at someone you know, you’ll see a green status dot next to their profile photo. This green dot means they’re currently online and it might be a good time to talk to them.
  • If you see a green status dot with a white circle in the middle, this means that your connection is available only on mobile and will be notified of your message.

To adjust your availability status, go to your settings to manage who can and can’t see when you’re available. LinkedIn is rolling out this feature to all members globally.
