Kik Messenger was one of the first messaging apps on Windows Phone, and has continued to maintain a presence on the platform even if not updating their app, with the last update being in 2016, and the one before in 2013.

It appears however that even for Kik the OS has reached the end of the line, as the app has disappeared from the Windows Store.

A number of users tipped us regarding the disappearance of the app, which appears to date to the end of November. Download links to the app itself have been removed from Kik’s website as early as May 2017.

Kik’s disappearance from the operating system is likely not very consequential, given its small user base, with the removal of Facebook Messenger from Windows Phone 8.1 much more significant. It is, however, another sign that remaining Windows Phone users would likely be better off making their own plans to move to a better supported mobile operating system.

Thanks to all who tipped us.
