According to the latest smartphone sales data from Kantar Worldpanel ComTech, Windows Phone’s worldwide market share continues to slide despite increase in sales volume. Windows Phone’s market share in key European markets fell 0.3% to 9.2%. Windows Phone’s situation in China is very bad, their market share fell 2.8% and now holds just 0.4%. In Australia and Germany, it lost market share of 3.1% and 1.4% respectively.
These latest numbers indicates that Microsoft Mobile division’s performance is clearly below industry growth. Despite portfolio of Windows Phone devices at various price points, sales are not expected. The main reason is the onslaught of low-cost/high-value Android devices from vendors such as Motorola, Xiaomi and others. Do you think Microsoft should go Xiaomi way by releasing low-cost, high-value hardware and earn money by selling services to the users?
