Google has rolled out a new feature for Workspace administrators that allows them to manage conversation history settings in the Gemini app across their domain. This update lets IT admins pre-set whether Gemini chat history is on or off for users. This would help streamline data retention policies and minimize the risk of inconsistent user configurations.

Previously, individual users controlled their own Gemini chat history settings. With this update, admins can now enforce organization-wide defaults through the Admin console, more easily aligning usage with company policies. If configured, the user interface within the Gemini app will reflect that chat history is managed by the organization, preventing users from changing it.

This feature is available to Google Workspace Enterprise customers and will begin rolling out gradually on May 6, 2025. Admins can access the new setting via the “Apps > Gemini > Conversation history” section in the Admin console.

The update does not affect existing user settings unless admins explicitly configure it. Google says the feature will help improve administrative oversight and compliance in enterprise environments that use Gemini’s AI capabilities for productivity tools.
