The iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro are near identical except for the camera clusters and it should come as no surprise then that a teardown earlier today revealed that the hardware for both devices are near identical, and likely in most cases interchangeable.

The main differences are in the camera system, with the iPhone 12 having dual cameras while the iPhone 12 Pro having a triple camera system with LIDAR.

The teardown revealed that Apple has filled that space left over by the smaller camera system with plastic plugs, which is a missed opportunity, as Apple could have fitted a larger battery. Both devices have an identical 2815 mAh battery.

The main motherboard is also near-identical, except for the iPhone 12 Pro having a socket for the LIDAR sensor.

Both devices have identical front camera, linear motor, speaker, bottom board, battery, which should allow for easier and cheaper repair in the future.
