As announced before, Intel today unveiled the 8th Generation (codenamed Coffee Lake) Intel Core processor family. They are starting with a range of mobile processors designed for thin and light notebooks and 2 in 1s. Intel claims that the 8th generation Intel Core processor (U-series) is Intel’s fastest 15W processor with up to 40 percent greater productivity than 7th Gen processors.

The improved performance is mainly because of the new quad-core configuration, power-efficient microarchitecture, advanced process technology and a range of silicon optimizations. Intel mentioned that 8th generation Intel Core based devices will offer up to 10 hours of 4K UHD local video playback on a single charge. Another highlight is that 8th Gen Intel Core processors will be Microsoft Mixed Reality-ready. If you buy devices with 8th Intel Core processors, you will be able to enjoy Mixed Reality experiences from Microsoft.

The first wave of 8th Gen Intel Core processor-based devices with the above i5/i7 processors will come to market beginning in September. The first desktop processors will be coming in the fall, followed by processors for enterprise customers. The 8th Gen family will also include some of Intel’s first 10 nm products.
