MegaPeter Chou, CEO of HTC has re-iterated the company’s goal to shift their production to the low-end. At the launch of the HTC Hero Chou has said shipments of mid-range smartphones will account for 50-60% of HTC’s total handset shipments in the second half of 2009.

Welcome news for buyers shocked by the high price T-Mobile is charging for the HTC Touch Pro 2, Chou said HTC will focus on the development of smartphones that will carry a price tag of around US$300.

Of course this generally means a lower feature set, and for HTC fans now used to WVGA screens this may be an unwelcome turn of events. Hopefully the economy will improve soon to better support our high-end habit.
