Speaking at HTC’s Annual General Meeting, HTC chairwoman and chief executive officer Cher Wang promised to launch a “hero product” in October.

This would be separate from their next flagship in 2016, which Wang said would make significant improvements in innovation and design.

This follows on the HTC M9 being criticized for lack of innovation and differentiation compared to the HTC M8.

Given the timing of the release in October it is suspected the device will be a Windows 10 Mobile handset, with HTC announced as a Windows 10 partner at Computex 2 days ago.

A Windows 10 Mobile version of the HTC One M9 has long been expected, following on from the HTC One M8 for Windows last year.  The  HTC One M9 features:

  • 5 inch 1080P screen.
  • 2GHz octa-core Snapdragon 810 processor
  • 3GB of RAM
  • 32GB of storage plus microSD expansion
  • 20 megapixel rear camera
  • UltraPixel front-facing camera
  • Boomsound speakers

Besides its very close appearance to the HTC One M8, the device is also been criticized for a poor quality 20 megapixel camera and slow Snapdragon 810 processor.

HTC’s stock price recently dropped below NT$100 to a 12-year low of NT$98 after shares stood as high as NT$1,300 on April 1, 2011.
