Key notes

  • Starting today on January 30, 2024, Rockstar Games Launcher will not be supported on Windows 7 & Windows 8.
  • That means, popular games like GTAV, Red Dead Redemption II, or even Max Payne 3 will not run properly.
  • The only workarounds you have is to upgrade to Windows 10 or Windows 11.

Need a reminder that Rockstar is cutting its Rockstar Games Launcher support for users of older Windows operating systems? We’ve got you covered.

The popular video game studio is officially axing its support for Windows 7 & Windows 8 users starting today, January 30, 2024. As a result, Rockstar Games titles like Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption II will no longer be playable on these outdated platforms due to the discontinuation of the Rockstar Launcher app.

It was announced a little while ago. Rockstar Games has decided to stop providing technical support for Windows 7 and 8, following Microsoft’s decision to end support for these operating systems in 2020 and 2023, respectively. Windows 7 support officially ended on January 14, 2020, while Windows 8 support ended in January 2023.

It’s a shame, though, considering how GTAV’s online mode is a cash cow for Rockstar. Other games, like Max Payne 3 and the GTA Trilogy ((GTAIII, Vice City, and San Andreas) will also not be playable.

Microsoft’s only solution for continuing to use Rockstar Games titles is to upgrade to a supported operating system, either Windows 10 or Windows 11. And unfortunately, the free upgrade offer to Windows 11 from Windows 7 and 8 expired a little while ago.
