With the end-of-support date for Windows 7 coming early next year, Microsoft offered extended support to businesses for 3 years for $25/year, doubling each year.  Now, a new promotion has been mentioned in Microsoft’s support documentation.

In thedocument, businesses with an active Windows 10 E5, Microsoft 365 E5 or Microsoft 365 E5 Security subscription, as of December 31 2019, are said to be entitled to free support for one year.

What are the terms of the promotion?
Starting June 1st, EA and EAS customers with active subscription licenses to Windows 10 Enterprise E5,
Microsoft 365 E5, or Microsoft 365 E5 Security (as of December 31, 2019) will get Windows 7 Extended
Security Updates for Year 1 as a benefit. With this limited-time promotion, you have more options to
continue receiving Windows 7 security updates after end of support.

Users need to ensure their subscription is active throughout the entire extended support period to continue to receive the free security updates.

Do you have to maintain Windows E5/Microsoft 365 E5 throughout the ESU coverage period?
Yes. Qualifying subscription licenses must remain active throughout the full ESU coverage period, or the free
ESU coverage expires with the subscription. (This is unique from paid ESU, which provides a fixed coverage
term independent of the EA enrollment term and other licenses purchased).

Alternatively, users can sign up to Windows Virtual Desktop to receive a free three free years of security updates.  Read more about the promotion on the Microsoft website.
