In November last year, Microsoft confirmed that they will be swapping the HTML rendering engine in Edge from EdgeHTML to Chromium.

The Microsoft said the browser would be available for testing early in 2019, but we are obviously still waiting. Microsoft did, however, open up an Edge Insider Program, which suggested only Windows 10 Insiders would have access to early builds of the browser.

Recently however Microsoft Edge’s Senior Program Manager for Edge, Kylealden, confirmed on Reddit that the browser will be available as a separate download for all.

The irony, of course, is that if the Edge browser was available as a separate download from the operating system its development could, in fact, have been more rapid and effective, and the browser may have had more users than it has now.
