Google has been working on a dark theme for the Chrome browser on both Windows and macOS, and the firm has naturally been working on a dark theme for Chrome OS as well.

A Reddit user shared screenshots of the new Dark theme in Canary, showing areas of the browser including the downloads folder and settings app.

As Google is likely aiming for design consistency across all operating system, this provides us with a better idea of what Google wants its dark mode to look like, especially considering the unfinished state of the Windows version. For instance, where the text in Windows is black on dark grey, in Chrome OS it is grey-ish, providing contrast.

Google’s dark theme for Chrome is likely going to roll out late this year, perhaps in Chrome 75 or even much later.
