Key notes

  • Google tests new AI feature on YouTube that answers questions about videos while you watch.
  • YouTube Premium members on Android in the US can try it out for now.
  • Google prioritizes transparency, requiring disclosure of AI-generated content and potentially labeling sensitive topics.

Google is taking its investment in AI a step further with a new experimental feature on YouTube. Currently being tested by Premium subscribers on Android in the US, this conversational AI lets users ask questions and get answers directly related to the video they’re watching without ever hitting pause. Seen on X.

This makes it so much easier to get to know if a video is actually worth it or just clickbait. Moreover, when I think of it, this can actually help users jot down the steps of some tedious tasks instead of waiting to go through all the points in the video. This comes after YouTube announced that YouTube Creators will soon be able to label their content as AI-generated with new tool.

How does it work?

Look for an “Ask” button beneath the video player controls. Tapping it for the first time will prompt users to agree to Google’s generative AI terms of service. Helpfully, Google provides examples like “Summarize the video” or “Recommend related content” to get you started.

YouTube creators are now required to disclose the use of AI-generated content, and the platform might introduce labels for videos on sensitive topics like politics, health, and finance.

This experiment can enhance the YouTube experience. I persobally cannot wait to get my hand onto it, can’t we wasting too much time on the videos were I want a specific information.
