Google today announced the all-new Google Pixel 8 series smartphones with a decent set of hardware and software upgrades. One of the main highlights of the press event was the software support that Google was promising for these Pixel 8 series smartphones. According to Google, the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro smartphones will receive software updates till 2030. The software updates include OS upgrades, feature drops and security updates.
No major smartphone brand, even including Apple, offers this committed level of support and longevity for a smartphone. This promised update for 7 years will make these phones a more sustainable smartphone choice when compared to other flagship devices.
It is important to note that this update promise is applicable only to the Google Pixel 8 series. You can find the software support dates of existing Pixel devices below.

“Extending our commitment with Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro was a natural progression for us, especially as we’re seeing people use their Pixel phones longer and longer. To make this possible, we’ve been working to secure long-term commitments from partner teams, and put the necessary testing infrastructure in place,” wrote Shenaz Zack, Director, Product Management at Google.
