Google and the University of Michigan are teaming up to give over 66,000 students access to job-ready tech training, starting May 19, 2025. The partnership unlocks free access to Google Career Certificates and AI-related courses through Michigan Online, the university’s digital learning platform.

Students across all U-M campuses can now enroll in industry-recognized certificate programs covering cybersecurity, IT support, UX design, project management, and more. Google is also offering two AI-focused courses, AI Essentials and Prompting Essentials, that teach practical skills for using AI tools responsibly.

The collaboration builds on an earlier partnership with the university’s Center for Academic Innovation. That initiative created a course series on public-sector data analytics to complement Google’s existing certificate programs.

Graduates of these certificates can join Google’s employer consortium, which includes over 150 companies, such as Ford, Rocket Companies, and Google itself, that are actively hiring.

Google’s long-standing presence in Ann Arbor adds a local dimension to the effort, aiming to better connect students to real job opportunities in Michigan and beyond.

Students can sign in with their U-M credentials on Michigan Online to get started. Google says over one million people have completed its career certificates globally, with more than 70% reporting career gains within six months.
