On May 14th, Google Cloud launched a new Generative AI certification, its first aimed at non-technical professionals. The $99 exam, lasting 90 minutes, targets managers, sales leads, marketers, and others outside traditional developer roles. The goal? Help teams lead AI adoption across entire organizations, not just in engineering.

Companies already use Google’s AI tools in the workplace. Employees at Mark Cuban’s Cost Plus Drugs say Gemini in Gmail saves them five hours a week. Hog Island Oyster speeds up sales reporting in Sheets. Formula E even cuts two-hour race commentary into two-minute podcasts.

This shift has changed employer expectations. A recent report shows 62% of hiring managers want AI fluency from all staff, not just tech teams. Google sees this as a clear signal to help businesses upskill.

To prep for the certification, Google Cloud released a free 7–8 hour learning path via Skills Boost. It includes five short courses covering gen AI concepts, real-world applications, and Google’s AI stack, like NotebookLM and Gemini. The certification spans four focus areas: AI basics, Google’s tools, improving outputs, and business strategy.

While Google’s Generative AI Leader certification course is free to learn and understand the concepts, learners should note that a one-time exam fee of $99 is required. You can find more details about the certification here.
