Google announces Chromebook Plus, a new category of Chromebooks with double the performance, memory and storage

Google today announced Chromebook Plus, a new category of Chromebooks that offers much improved performance. Google worked with OEMs partners Acer, ASUS, HP and Lenovo to build a minimum spec for Chromebook Plus. As you can see from the minimum spec below, the new Chromebook Plus offers double the performance, memory and storage when compared to Chromebooks of 2022.
- CPU: Intel Core i3 12th Gen or above, or AMD Ryzen 3 7000 series or above
- RAM: 8GB+
- Storage: 128GB+
- Web camera: 1080p+ with Temporal Noise Reduction
- Display: Full HD IPS or better display
In addition to the improved minimum specs, Google is bringing some of the premium features in Google Meet to Chromebook Plus. These Chromebook Plus laptops will have built-in AI to help improve your call’s clarity and lighting, reduce background noise and background blur. These features will work with any video conferencing apps including Google Meet, Zoom and Microsoft Teams.
Magic Eraser in the built-in Google Photos app on Chromebook Plus will allow you to easily remove unwanted things from your photos. The Photos app will also offer improved editing features, like an HDR effect that enhances brightness and contrast, and the ability to add portrait blur to your existing photos.
The new File Sync feature on Chromebook Plus will keep your Google Drive files even when offline, by automatically downloading your drive files.
The following AI features will be coming to Chromebook Plus in 2024:

Easily draft and refine shorter-form content across websites. This is like the new Bing Rewrite option that is already available on Microsoft Edge web browser.
- Generate custom wallpapers using easy templatized text prompts.
- Generate AI backgrounds for your video calls.
Google is also offering following deals with Chromebook Plus devices:
- Three months of Adobe Photoshop on the web and Express free.
- New Chromebook Plus users can get 25% off LumaFusion’s one-time cost of $29.99.
- You can try Duet AI in Google Workspace today with a no-cost trial.
You can order the new Chromebook Plus laptops from Best Buy, Amazon, Walmart and Target starting October 8, 2023 in the US. In Canada and Europe, new Chromebook Plus laptops will be from October 9, 2023. Google will also be bringing Chromebook Plus OS update to some existing Chromebooks, you can find the list here.
