Google reportedly has trouble deciding on a new name for its rebranded “Assistant with Bard” feature (here is the first look of it). According to a recent report from 9to5Google, the company is currently testing two names: “Gemini” and “Bard.”

“Assistant with Bard” was originally announced in October 2023 alongside the Pixel 8. It is a new version of Google Assistant powered by the company’s large language model, Bard. Bard is a generative AI model that can generate text, translate languages, write creative content, and answer your questions.

Google reportedly decided to rebrand “Assistant with Bard” to simply “Bard” to better align it with the Bard experience on the web. However, it seems the company now has second thoughts about this decision.

The report from 9to5Google claims that Google is now testing “Gemini” as a possible alternative to “Bard.”

However, the issue with Gemini is that the name “Gemini” could become outdated if Google decides to use a different LLM.

It is now unclear which names Google will choose for its rebranded “Assistant with Bard” feature. The company will likely continue testing “Gemini” and “Bard” in the coming months before making a final decision.
