Key notes

Google introduced a new update to Sheets – Gemini AI can now generate fully editable charts that automatically update when your data changes. Previously, charts created by Gemini appeared only as fixed images, which quickly became outdated once the data shifted.
Now, users type prompts like “create a bar chart showing campaign performance by market” in the Gemini sidebar. Gemini builds the chart preview panel, and once inserted, it appears on a new sheet tab. From there, users can adjust details- chart title, colors, axes labels – just as they would with any native chart.
These newly editable charts stay tuned to the data on their dedicated tab. If you update the chart’s source sheet, the chart updates too. But note: if you change data in the original sheet, the chart won’t reflect it – you’ll need to edit the data in the chart’s own tab. And for some complex visualizations, Gemini may still fall back to static images that won’t update automatically.

Google highlights real-world users who stand to benefit. A marketing analyst can quickly build campaign trend visuals, a small business owner can chart monthly cash flow, and financial analysts can compare inventory breakdowns- all without manual chart creation.
This feature now rolls out across business and enterprise Workspace tiers, Business Standard/Plus, Enterprise Standard/Plus, Gemini Education add-ons, and the new Google AI Pro and Ultra plans. Users of discontinued Gemini Business or Enterprise add-ons still get access. Organizations must enable “smart features and personalization” in the Admin console for it to appear.
Rollout began June 9, with full visibility expected in one to three days for Rapid and Scheduled Release domains. Google reminds users that Gemini works best on spreadsheets under one million cells, with consistent formatting and clear headers.
