It looks like The Coalition accidentally revealed player count figures for Gears of War 4. In a post on their website, the developer said that a notoriously difficult achievement had only been unlocked by 3,201 players or 0.05% of players. Rand al Thor, the famous gamer who passed 1,000,000 Gamerscore recently, noticed this. However, The Coalition quickly deleted the 3,201 figure. Well, it’s too late now because we can calculate the total player count.

If you take 3,201 players to be 0.05%, then 100% is 6,402,000. This means that around 6.4 million gamers have played Gears of War 4. Now, keep in mind that Microsoft did recently offer a free trial for the title so this figure includes those individuals. Despite that, 6.4 million is a fantastic total and it shows that the franchise is healthy. While it’s not as healthy as Halo 5’s player count of over 16.5 million (number from a few years ago before the free trials and free Windows 10 version), it’s still quite good.
