Update 2: The final size of Forza Motorsport 7 is 67 GB on Xbox One and around 95 GB on Windows 10. The Xbox One X version is expected to be around 95 GB too.
Forza Motorsport 7 was always going to be a technical showcase for Xbox One X. It’s at the pinnacle of visuals and it’s also at the pinnacle of…occupying space on your Xbox One hard drive. According to the listing for the product on the Xbox Store, the game comes in at around 100 GB on Xbox One. This is going to increase as new content is added. The fact that it’s 100 GB is mostly due to the fact that it runs at 4K 60 FPS on Xbox One X and those assets are massive. I’m sure a lot of it is uncompressed audio too.
Barring any other games that come out between now and when Forza Motorsport 7 comes out, this is by far the biggest game on Xbox One. It might be the biggest game on any console actually. Considering that the last Forza title was around 50 GB, this is definitely a startling leap. At this point I would usually go into a diatribe about how huge games are annoying to install and I need to buy another hard drive, but Forza Motorsport 7 just looks so amazing at 4K 60 FPS that I’ll just upgrade my internet. Many Microsoft Stores should have versions of the game running on Xbox One X by the end of the week so be sure to call and check. I know there’s one in Cincinnati, Ohio which has the game running already. October 3 can’t get here sooner!
Update 1: Microsoft knows that it’s unacceptable to have 100 GB game downloads so they’re working on a solution which uses cloud computing. The console may only download certain files at a time to minimize the impact to the hard drive. While this technology seems to be years away, it’s still interesting that the company is working towards it. The company confirmed that Forza Motorsport 7 was 95 GB at launch. Only 50 GB fits on a disc so the rest will have to be downloaded.
