An edit button is a feature Twitter users have demanded from the firm for years, yet the firm has yet to implement that. Instead, Twitter’s Jack Dorsey has revealed that the firm is thinking of adding a new ‘clarification’ feature which helps tackle one of the use cases of a hypothetical edit button.

“One of the concepts we’re thinking about is clarifications,” Dorsey said, speaking in San Francisco on Thursday “Kind of like retweet with comment, to add some context and some color on what they might have tweeted, or what they might have meant.”

Unlike quote tweets or comments, which are often used for this purpose,  ‘clarification’ comment will always appear where the original tweet is shared. If there is misinformation, it will have the same reach as the original, while alleviating the concerns some users may have with an edit button. For example,  a user could completely alter the tone of what they say after an edit, rendering quote tweeters and retweeters look like they support something they don’t, something Twitter is surely taking into acount.

This is just one of the options Twitter is exploring to make users feel more confortable sharing their thoughts on the platform.  It’s not a concrete feature just yet, but it could be an option down the lin.e
